Ingrid, you are on point. I would just like to add that there have been just as many Republicans getting abortions as Democrats, why didn't Scott call them 'sinners'? Abortion has nothing to do with party affiliation; it is a moral issue and the choice surrounding it has everything to do with that woman's morals. If she can live with the fact that she got one, then so be it. God will ultimately decide on her as He will on ALL of us. NO law on the books can safeguard us from that. I read the entire article in the newspaper and wondered where this priest has been for the past eight years. President Bush (with guidance from Karl Rove) used the Abortion and Gay Marriage issues to win the election in 2004. Yet he (Bush) never addressed the issues once he returned to office. Bush appointed two Supreme Court Justices who shared his views but Abortion has yet to go before the court. The issue of Gay Marrriage has been turned over to the States.
This priest (like many others) fails to realize that President-elect Obama does not endorse Abortion as most people do not. He just feels it should be the woman's choice. Women of ALL religions and races have gotten abortions even before they were legal and if they are outlawed, women will go back to those old means. This is not to condone abortions but to state a fact.
President-elect Obama said in his nomination speech that we need to educate women more so that abortions will not be needed!
I find it ironic that Reverend Jay Scott is so vocal about folks voting for Obama yet I have never heard his name mentioned in response to the abuse that many priests inflicted on youth around this country for decades!
