The Black Women's Guide to What's Hot Now!

Halle Berry and Oprah Rumored to Costar in 'For Colored Girls

We know it's hard out there for a talented Black actress to nab a role, much less a good one. So when creative titan Tyler Perry's announced that he's producing and directing a big screen adaptation of the hit 1976 Broadway play "For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf," it was like an early Christmas gift (and refund check) in September.

Now IMDB.com, the movie industry's go-to Web site, has got tongues wagging with a rumored early list of actresses cast for Tyler Perry's forthcoming big screen adaptation of "For Colored Girls" including Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodard, and Lynn Whitfield. Emmy Award-winning actresses Whitfield and Woodard made their television debuts in an acclaimed 1982 PBS production of the play, which also featured original cast member Trazana Beverely, reprising her 1977 Tony Award-winning role as the Lady in Red.--P.H.B.

Mr. Perry I have so much respect for your perserverence and your loyalty to Jesus. Also, I love the move you made by taking the swimming denied children on vacation. Seems like a move I would have made. It was a beautiful moment. Much love and continued blessings......@Lynn, I so agree with you about Angela Basset. Even if she didn\'t like it which I did not, by saying it in the media it displayed jealousy. Sad.

I do understand that Tyler\'s Mom is ill, but when you go to his messageboard, there for folk leaving oximoranic messages...One message states he owns TPS and then the next message states he lost everything. What is really going on, and will he continue to do collaborations\' with Oprah or what? Also how is it she(well her fan\'s) pops up consistenty on his messageboard..I just want to know if she is a private owner or an investor for TPS? Help, because I wanted to work with Tyler, but something is not right!!!

I hope Angela Bassett can be more professional on the set with Halle than she was when she openly criticized Halle for the nude scene in Monster\'s Ball for which Halle won the Oscar as the First Black woman. I may not have agreed with the nude scene, but Angela\'s total disgust with Halle & no congratulations on finally showing that Black women deserve top honors in Hollywood was totally distasteful. Prior to that I had much respect for Angela, but she came off as just hateful and jealous. That aside, thank you Tyler for gathering so many fantastic Black actresses. Just the star power alone should make the film great.

Glad to hear this. There are so many talented and beautiful black actresses and actors in Hollywood that just don't get the best roles. I'm glad Tyler Perry makes black films and casts black actresses and actors. Nevertheless, it seems some black directors and actors what to do just films, not only black films. However, I still think more black people in hollywood with power, should start making their own films and have their own studios instead of waiting for Dreamworks to call.
