Black Participant at Debate Offended By McCain's Assumption

Oliver Clark, the Black man who asked presidential candidates Senators John McCain and Barack Obama the first question at the town hall debate last week in Nashville, was apparently offended when McCain assumed that he had never heard of the mortgage giants Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac until recent news, according to MSNBC. McCain told the college graduate: “You probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this.”

Since then Clark has been flooded with questions about how he felt. Reporters have been unlucky with securing an interview, but Clark has responded with a post on his Facebook page, stating that he did know about companies before recent news and detailed a list of his personal accomplishments and degrees.

Only McCain knows the content of his statement. We can all assume it was a racial slur or it could indeed just be an automatic statement. We tend to speak how we think. If indeed it was a slur...well are we "shocked" by that. I think not. If it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck. Quack and move on!

I did indeed catch this during the 2nd of 3 debates that night, but I was more shocked that Senator McCain would point toward Senator Obama and call him a "That." It was disgraceful and insulting.

That must be a very small few, dtop under estimating blacks intelligents, you must be a republician, and it is about racism if you can't read between the lines and the serious issues racism.

I don't think McCain meant anything racial by it, but I didn't think it was appropriate to assume the American public didn't know who or what Fannie Mae and/or Freddie Mac were. But I was even offended when he said that and I knew it was gonna be an issue and can clearly see how it could've been taken out of context. And I'm a white girl.

I think McCain "just does not get it". If you notice at the convention and these rally's the attendee's are all red necks to me and thats who he and Palin is talking to. So when he say's "you proberly never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie mac". Thats just their mentally and I was suprised and even when he said " and that one" . Its just embedded in them to do this, I am from another country and I see how this country operates and the garbage black goes through, because I get the same treatment the only think is no one ask if I am african american all they see is my color. So we blacks are going to be scurtinized and treated like this. No matter how much education we have, look at the treatment Obama is getting we should all take on his posture and attitude and not react the way they expect us to. I am just waiting for McCain to blow his gasket, the only thing left for him to do is use the "N" word.
