Kwame Kilpatrick: Former Lover Agrees To Do Jail Time

Christine Beatty, former top aide and undercover lover to disgraced Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick, has agreed to serve a 120-day jail term and five years probation, according to the Detroit Free Press. Beatty will be sentenced on January 5, 2009, for her part in the 2007 text-message sex scandal that resulted in two police officers' dismal from the force.
Similar to the terms met by Kilpatrick, Beatty will also have to pay restitution in the amount of $100,000 to the City of Detroit and will not be allowed to pursue a law degree.

The New York Times reports that Beatty wiped tears from her eyes before admitting, "I lied under oath," as the judge read the terms of her deal.
Beatty is a divorced mother of two who has known Kilpatrick since they were in high school. Kilpatrick is currently serving his own four-month sentence at the Wayne County Jail, which he received as part of his deal for pleading guilty to two counts of perjury. He's expected to be released in February 2009.

Beatty's attorneys have said they will give a statement to the press at 3:00 P.M. EST today.

Do you think Beatty did the right thing by pleading guilty?

An indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour. A man who disrespects and dishonors his wife and family will not treat an unpaid (no matter how long he's known her or how long they have been "friends")--with much regard either. Get real! Ladies, don't fool around with married men....

Pleading guilty or not guilty does not nec. absolve you of your sins. The real damage that was done was how actions of a few affected the lives of many, meaning the families and children of those involved. Are we glad that she plead guilty bc of the perjury or the affair?

I give Miss Beatty some credit for acknowledging her part in the situation; most women would have kept their mouth shut and let Kilpatrick go at it by himself.
