A two-day hip-hop symposium and exhibit featuring music, performances and lectures with some of the genre’s legendary crusaders is set to take place October 31 through November 1 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, reports Allhiphop.com. The event celebrates the institution’s historical acquisition of a compilation of documents titled “Born in the Bronx: The Legacy and Evolution of Hip Hop.” The collection contains nearly 1,000 sound recordings, books, textile art, magazines and archives of Bronx photographer Joe Conzo, Jr. The conference kicks off Friday with a roundtable discussion hosted by DJ and artist Afrika Bambaataa and other pioneers followed by afternoon discussions and an evening show. Additional performances take place Saturday. All events are free and open to the public. “We want the community at large to celebrate hip-hop’s contributions to American culture through a better understanding of its origins, which are the focus of this unique collection,” said Katherine Reagan, curator of Rare Books & Manuscripts at Cornell University Library.
