College Sweethearts: Oludolapo "Dolapo" and Dane met as college freshmen at the State University of New York at Old Westbury in the fall of 2000. Although the pair were initially "just friends" because they were both involved with other people, sparks quickly began to fly and the two officially began dating in November 2000. The couple dated the entire time they were in college and continued to date after graduation. "Dane was sensitive and not like other guys on campus," explains Dolapo. She adds, "He never knew his father and his mother died when he was 16. He was raised by his grandparents. He has a really kind soul."

If at First You Don't Succeed: The couple enjoyed a courtship long after graduation and even began living together. Dolapo admits that Dane proposed to her a few times before she said yes. "I wasn't ready before. I felt like I was too young," reveals the bride. "It was my first real relationship and I didn't want the pressure of saying yes just because we had been together for so long," she adds. Thankfully, Dane was persistent and when he took Dolapo back to their alma mater of Old Westbury where they had met some seven years before, he proposed on their anniversary, she finally accepted his hand in marriage.

Cultural Connection: Dane and Dolapo's wedding was definitely not a cookie cutter affair. The bride ensured she represented her Nigerian heritage as much as possible. Although Dane is a Trini-merican (an American whose entire family is from Trinidad), he easily rolled with the punches as did Dolapo's parents. "My parents loved Dane from the get. Most Nigerian parents would object to their daughter marrying someone who isn't Nigerian but mine never put those restrictions on me. They are very modern-what mattered to them is that Dane treated me well," explains Dolapo.

Wedding Extravaganza!: "Our wedding day was one of the best days of our lives. We made a conscious decision to enjoy every moment, from the planning to the actual day," says Dolapo cheerfully. And what a day it was. The couple had over 800 guests from all over the globe, a 48 member bridal party and conducted four outfit changes. The reception was complete with both a live band and a DJ, plus there was a string quartet on hand at the ceremony. Thankfully Dolapo did have a wedding planner to assist her with the logistics of this grand affair. "My husband kinda knew what to expect because he had been to a couple of Nigerian weddings before but his family was completely shocked!" shares Dolapo.

Bridal Budget Bite: It might be hard to imagine that Dolapo spared any expense in regards to her over-the-top wedding day but the African beauty does have some frugal words of advice for brides-to-be. The newlywed suggests that future brides avoid spending a lot of money on shoes because "no one is really going see to see them. Rather, she advises to put your money in something that will stand the test of time."Invest in a good videographer. You definitely can't see everything that day. You'll say, ‘I didn't know this person came.' or ‘I didn't know that happen.' It's like you relive the day over and over again."
