Cupid's Buddies: Katina Lee was too busy with her fabulous lifestyle as a stylish New York City marketing professional to care about the handsome young man her friends kept suggesting she meet. "Royce and I were supposed to meet two years before we actually did," recalls Katina. Finally the two were formally introduced at a buzzing Manhattan party in 2007. "We chatted and he asked me for my number but I said no because I knew I would see him at a mutual friend's barbeque that weekend," says Katina with a laugh. But the tough role didn't last very long. She adds, "We clicked immediately and became best friends right away."
And Baby Makes Three: That friendship soon developed into a romance and after a year or so of dating, Katina became pregnant with the couple's daughter, Kennedy. Now 10 months old, she is the apple of her parent's eyes. But when her beau Royce proposed, Katina was initially torn about having a traditional wedding ceremony with all the bells and whistles because she didn't follow the "traditional" order of marriage then baby. Loved ones forced Katina to remember that genuine love was the only thing that mattered in her union to Royce. "Kennedy epitomizes what our love is," Katina says. Proud father Royce echoes that sentiment. "She is God's blessing to us," he says of Kennedy.
City Dwellers Head South: Although the couple has long lived in New York City, they chose a quaint golf and country club in southern Florida for their nuptials. The plotting to secure the tranquil venue began a few years ago when the bride's parents relocated to the sunshine state. "I fell in love with the club while it was still being built. It is very rustic and beautiful," remembers Katina. "I told my mother if they allow people to have weddings, I want to get married there," she adds. Katina's mother agreed and began planning immediately following her daughter's engagement.
Glamour Gal: Known for always being ahead of the fashion curve, Katina definitely didn't disappoint on her wedding day. The bride wore a trumpet style gown with a beaded bodice by Paloma Blanca. When asked how she decided on her gown Katina quickly answers, "It's the only dress my mother cried about. I knew right away it was the one." Her satin and jeweled stilettos were from Manolo Blahnik in her favorite color pink. "I've had the shoes for years," admits Katina. The new wife and mother opted to wear her long tresses in a messy yet classy side swept bun accented by a jeweled headband and cathedral veil. Her makeup was kept minimal and neutral yet sophisticated.
Bridal Budget Bite: Like many brides, Katina took full advantage of her talented friends and family members when planning her big day. "My uncle was my photographer, my brother designed everything from my save the date cards to my escort cards and my mother was my wedding planner," says the doting mom. Another way to save cash when jumping the broom is to utilize non-bridal resources for out-of-the box accessories. A frugal Katina snagged fans from New York City's Chinatown for her guests to use as a solace for the Florida heat. Not only were the fans a unique style option but they were also a nod to her Chinese heritage (her father has Chinese Jamaican ancestry).
