Meet Me at the Y:  A senior citizens water aerobics class at a Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA pool is hardly the place where a hip fashionista would expect to meet the love of her life. But that is exactly what happened to Nicole Brewer. It was there in February 2006 that the wardrobe stylist met industrial designer Damien Gurganious, who, like Nicole, was looking for a way to get and stay fit close to home. "When I first laid eyes on Nikki, I wasn't sure what her age was because she was wearing a retro swimming cap with flowers all over it and we were in a senior class. My curiosity got the best of me and I had to find out her age. Once we spoke, I knew that she was someone very special," explains Damien. A friendship evolved into a courtship and soon the swimming duo were inseparable.

Lean on Me: Just over a year after the couple met, Nicole's mother passed away in March of 2007. She was devastated and thankfully had Damien to lean on for support. "I really couldn't do anything or be around anyone but Damien after my mom died. He stayed in touch with my friends for me and helped me to function," reveals Nicole. Damien adds, "My parents passed away when I was just a child, so I just kind of pulled from that experience to help Nicole cope. No matter what the age death is a difficult journey. When Nicole needs something, I know what to give, when she hurts I know just how to heal her," he adds.

Rules of Engagement: Damien gave his beloved the ultimate birthday gift on her 37th birthday—a marriage proposal! Since he knew that Nicole was still depressed about turning 37 and the death of her mother, he went out of his way to make the day extra special. "We had been through a lot that year, and since our birthdays are in November I wanted to end the year with a celebration of love and life, hoping to overshadow some of the year's earlier pains," shares Damien. The birthday surprises began with brunch, a day at the spa, dinner, dessert and entertainment. When Damien finally popped the big question at a swanky nightclub, Nicole confesses, "I was a blubbering idiot!" The loving pair postponed their nuptials for over a year to participate in "The Biggest Loser."

Picture Perfect: After being contestants on the hit reality television show "The Biggest Loser," the couple finally set a wedding date of August 16, 2009. Even once the couple was booted off the series, they continued their quest to shed pounds. Nicole is presently a sexy size 8 (down from a size 24) and Damien is a fly 42 (formerly a size 60). For the big walk down the aisle, Nicole wore a custom-fitted gown from renowned bridal designer Amsale and Damien opted for a Calvin Klein tuxedo from Men's Warehouse. "It was indeed my 'dream' dress, something I never thought I'd be able to wear. It was a perfect and priceless celebration of my weight loss," says Nicole. Celebrity makeup artist Roxanna Floyd made sure Nicole's face was camera ready and hairstylist Tasha Campbell tended to her tresses.

Bridal Budget Bite: "No matter how much you plan, something will go wrong," reveals Nicole. While she didn't have a wedding planner, Nicole did tap into her organizational skills as a former magazine fashion director to execute her dream day. The savvy stylist saved money by purchasing her flowers wholesale from New York City's floral district and simply had her "Biggest Loser" buddy Carla Triplett design the arrangements. She also strongly encourages other brides to be prepared for the cost repercussions of people who RSVP, yes, and don't show. Nicole's last words of advice are: "Do a video!" While she was thoroughly pleased with the work of photographer Parris Whittingham, she and Damien regret not investing in a video that captured all the memorable parts of their big day she might have missed.
