Nawlins Nuptials Recap
ESSENCE Beauty Editor Pamela Edwards Christiani tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Nigel on April 11, 2009 in The Big Easy. We caught up with the newlywed to find out how married life has been treating the Brooklyn couple, how she had a cocktail named after her and what she would (and wouldn't) do differently for her big walk down the aisle.
ESSENCE.com: So Pamela, you're preparing to head back to New Orleans for the 15th Annual ESSENCE Music Festival! How does it feel to visit the city as a "Mrs."?
PAMELA EDWARDS CHRISTIANI: Nigel and I are always excited to visit our favorite American city. Honestly, there is still a certain amount of stress because I'll be working. But I'm looking forward to going to Café Amelie and tasting "The Pamela." It is a signature drink that was named after me following the wedding ceremony!
ESSENCE.com: What about your husband Nigel?
CHRISTIANI: He's already booked our dinner reservations for the entire stay. We plan to eat at a different restaurant where neither of us have eaten before, every night. Since I have to work during the day, we're looking forward to our romantic dinners in the evening before the concerts.
ESSENCE.com: Many people tell brides not to sweat the small stuff. What was an item on your "small stuff" list?
CHRISTIANI: The cake was not important to me. I hear some women go on and on about spending $6,000 or more on a cake and I'm like..."Okay." My sister even had to remind Nigel and me what type of filling we ordered because we had forgotten.
ESSENCE.com: On the other hand, what has remained very important to you regarding your wedding day?
CHRISTIANI: The photographer and videographer were crucial. My images are very important to me for posterity. I do regret not giving my photographer a shot list because there are some pictures I didn't get like me and my sister (and maid of honor) together. I actually wish I had more candid shots of my guests too. Thank God for Facebook. My guests all shared their pictures with me there. (laughs)
CHRISTIANI: It's very nice to refer to someone as your husband. After nearly three months we're both still giggly about it. Everyday we recognize we're not just living together anymore. It's a good feeling.
