When Love Hurts: Scorned Girlfriend Faces Death Penalty

Mississippi middle school teacher Carla Hughes could face the death penalty after she was found guilty Tuesday of fatally shooting and stabbing her lover's pregnant fiancé in 2006, according to CNN.com. Hughes, 28, sobbed loudly as a judge read the verdicts on two counts of capital murder for the deaths of Avis Banks and her unborn child. The jury also found the slayings occurred during the commission of a burglary, making Hughes eligible for the death penalty.

Banks, 27, was found lying in a pool of blood on November 29, 2006, in the garage of the Ridgeland home she shared with Pittman, the father of her unborn child. She had been shot four times in the leg, chest and head, and then stabbed multiple times in the face and neck as she lay dying, according to medical testimony.

Suspicion initially fell on Pittman, who admitted to having an affair with Hughes, a language arts teacher. Pittman old the jury he began seeing Hughes one month after finding out his girlfriend was pregnant. He testified that the two met frequently in Hughes' home and even went out of town together, but he insisted the relationship was based solely on sex.--BB

She deserves what ever the law and the female inmates throw at her. She threw her life a way and the man is not a factor.

It is ashame that men with bad intentions play most women over and over like it's a lottery game, and most women fall for it, too. If this male had been decent, he would have never inadvertantly pulled this off.

This young lady had such a promising future and she threw it away for a no good man. Remember she wasn't thinking of her family, her son or even herself. Ladies stop and think; this man may not be for you..If he wants to be with you then he will choose you! Know your WORTH..... don't ever kill, steal or do anything illegal or immoral for a man they will dump you in a heart beat. Carla was intelligent no doubt but her emotional IQ was lacking. Ladies before you do anything dumb run it past a few people and see what they say. It not worth IT!!!!!!!!!!!

First let me say all this "girl hate" I am reading here and elsewhere in response to this story is the root of why we find this sort of thing happening in the first place. Women are always always so damn mean to each other! Our lack of love for ourselves is a mad disease!!! All of you sistahs know both these women knew this man was a DOG besides the fact that it came out in this case...we know when a man is DIRTY! If Carla loved Carla and Avis loved Avis they would have both left his azz alone! And if they respected each other as the beautiful women we were created to be they would have have a conversation and moved forward without the jerk in tow! But no...each thought what was between their legs could change this DOG...each thought they were better than the other and would ultimatly win...each failed to be the very best they could be to themselves! My heart and prayers go out to all families involved because it is a horrible thing for them ALL! The Banks lost loved ones...Carla's son will have no mother her parents have no child...Keyon's parents will know their son has no morality and poor character...what a burden for any parent...and his new wife will always wonder what women he is standing across from in the gym and texting...who he is pursuing from day to day but I am sure her biggest worry will be am I married to a MURDERER!
